Research & Publications

At MHAAT, research is a core commitment. We pursue rigorous scholarship to understand the historical, cultural, social, and structural conditions shaping maternal healthcare. We value maternal lived experiences, clinical insight, and community knowledge as essential to meaningful inquiry. Our goal is to advance knowledge, inform future research, and contribute to more equitable, culturally responsive maternal healthcare.

Reframing Maternal Healthcare: A Culturally Responsive Approach to Maternal Voice and CareĀ

Dr. LaVada U. Taylor, Founder and Managing Member, MHAAT

This conceptual scholarly presentation introduces the proposed MHAAT Reciprocal Humanization Framework, integrating critical consciousness, epistemic justice, and culturally responsive care to examine how maternal knowledge and clinician self-reflection may shape reciprocal engagement within the mother clinician relationship. The central proposition is that maternal knowledge and clinical expertise should be mutually recognized, respected, and enacted to shape care. Moving from listening to being shaped by mothers.

ANNUAL REPORT

State of Maternal Health Advocacy 2026

A comprehensive overview of MHAAT's impact, highlighting data-informed practices and systems transformation milestones achieved this past year.

Evidence in Action

Our research serves as a catalyst for systemic change. By bridging the gap between clinical data and maternal lived experience, we translate complex findings into sustainable, life-saving practices.

Reducing Cardiovascular Risk

Data-informed monitoring protocols were integrated into three regional hub clinics, resulting in a documented 22% reduction in hypertensive crisis incidents during the postpartum period.

Structural Dignity Mapping

By mapping structural barriers to care access, our research informed a redesign of patient navigation pathways, increasing long-term care engagement for at-risk mothers by 38%.
